On Target 3.3.b Ratio of Occupied to Available Bed Nights

What This Graph Tells Us

The graph shows us the percentage of available shelter beds occupied each quarter compared to our target of at least 80% of shelter beds being occupied.

Data Status Legend

  • Green - percentage of available shelter beds is at or above the target.
  • Yellow - percentage of available shelter beds is between 80% - 100% of the target.
  • Red - percentage of available shelter beds is below 80% of the target.

Why This Measure Matters

The occupancy rate of available shelter beds provides crucial insight into how effectively our community is utilizing its shelter resources. By comparing these occupancy rates with shelter capacity and with the number of households on the Housing Interest pool seeking shelter, we can better understand the current gap in emergency shelter needs. Tracking this measure also helps us identify vacancies, enabling more efficient placement of individuals in need. Furthermore, consistently low occupancy rates at a specific shelter could indicate underlying issues that may require attention and improvement.
